INFERTILITY
You may have already begun a fertility treatment regime and are aware of the enormous stress and feelings of isolation you can experience, as well as the effects of the drugs and the invasiveness of the procedures.
Maybe you want to experience the benefits of Clinical Hypnofertility techniques on body and hormone function, reduction of stress and on personal relations. In essence, if you want to feel normal again and regain trust in your ability to conceive by whatever method, this is for you now.
Remember, you just happen not to be pregnant, yet.
After all you have been through, Hypnofertility can come as a
very pleasant surprise for you both.
There's time for you, thorough explanation, and time to get to know your therapist, but it's quick, to the point and gets you there. The ambience is calming and non-clinical.
Helena Tubridy is a dedicated expert in the speciality of Hypnosis for Fertility (also known as Hypnofertility) and is also familiar with the clinical aspects of ART. She has developed an amazing Hypnosis-based programme of treatment for you that takes you beyond the myriad challenges, and works with you, to reboot your system, body and mind.
She has also trained with US-based Hypnotherapist, Lynsi Eastburn, author of 'It's Conceivable!

Helena is absolutely passionate about this work and gets a big thrill from those happy texts and calls announcing babies on the way.
Research results:
In clinical trials a team from Soroka University, Israel, led by Eliahu Levitas, have shown a doubling in IVF conception rates in those treated with Hypnotherapy, Hypnofertility, and those who use it during the delicate embryo transfer stage. Professor David Spiegel, of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at Stanford University said that Hypnotherapy is a safe and effective way to teach people to manage their own symptoms, and response to stressors. His team has found evidence in scan procedures of alteration in the cingulated cortex area of the brain during Hypnosis showing that it is a distinct psychological state. As John Gruzelier from Imperial college, London, put it: "We have a magnificent therapeutic tool here".
Infertility now affects one in six couples. Ground breaking research at Harvard's Mind/Body Centre for Women's Health shows how everyday lifestyle factors such as Stress, Exercise, Nutrition and Diet affect conception.
Dr. Alice Domar, examined the relationship between fertility and stress, and is published in The Journal of American Medical Women's Association(1999). 55% of previously infertile women, who participated in a mind-body programme to reduce stress conceived, compared to 20% of the control group, who did not use mind-body techniques ie hypnotherapy.
Dr. Gayle Peterson is a pioneer in the field of mind/body states and their effect on Fertility, Pregnancy and Birthing. She has developed a technique called Body Centred Hypnosis to effectively reduce anxiety states in those who have failed to conceive.
Dr. Ernest Rossi specializes in Psychobiology, which is the relationship between mind and body. His extensive research suggests that human genes must be in a state of physical readiness for conception to occur, and that Hypnotherapy can activate specific genes.
Hypnotherapy affects the Hypothalamus, the neural centre at the base of the brain that is linked to the Pituitary gland and controls the flow of hormones. The Hypothalamus is sensitive to stress and acts as a bridge between the emotional and the physical, turning emotional messages into physical responses that affect hormone levels. John Gruezelier, Professor of Psychology at Imperial School of medecine, has found that Hypnotherapy can strengthen the immune system by 48% in six weeks. Alleviating depression and other psychological disorders appears to make it easier to become pregnant. It may even be sensible for women who want to get pregnant to treat any depression first (Dr. Kate Lapane, Brown University,USA).Studies show that women with pre-existing feelings of depression are twice as likely to have fertility problems as those who do not, and women who are depressed and undergoing IVF have 50% fewer pregnancies.
When you have tried to do everything by the book, and see other's apparently casual attitude and are wondering, 'Why not me?' ... it can be the time to look beyond the physical aspects of body function and question the role of the unconscious mind in resisting a pregnancy so thoroughly. 'Unexplained infertility' actually means that there is no reason why you shouldn't conceive...you just haven't conceived yet.
Fertility treatment in itself can be a stressor causing distress and leading to a degree of depression which can compromise a relationship. Maybe you know the disappointment of a failed cycle, the grief of losing a baby, fear of trying again, the anger inside, the feeling of failure and how difficult it is to feel understood by those around you. Dealing efficiently with these issues allows healing, growth and perspective change. This is an area which people have been loathe to discuss and get to grips with. In most cultures for instance, anger is not very acceptable for the sweet, gentle ideal woman. Just imagine what that pressure cooker of unexpressed feelings do to the system! And you still have to work, meet family and friends, shop, cook, drag a hoover around and generally appear your bright, effective self....would'nt you agree?
Now you can avail of the research-based integrated treatment programme devised by Helena Tubridy.
Hypnotherapy allows rapid sorting and clearing of psychological blocks to happen, in 6-8 sessions along with Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Guided Visualization techniques and Self- Hypnosis instruction, retraining and rebooting your reproductive system.
Reflextherapy may also be used. This is a special therapeutic pressure point massage of feet and legs, based on Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Meridians and Acupressure systems. Stimulating these reflex points helps unblock energy channels to promote optimal function of body systems and has proven benefit in regulating menstruation and ovulation. It is also a delightful and relaxing treatment, which gets you back in touch with your sensual, fun side, too.
How does Hypnosis work for me?
This unique Hypnotherapeutic programme puts you firmly back in the driving seat. You will enjoy the benefits of expert care, with broadbase skills and expertise to lead and coach you through your process.
Baseline stress levels are assessed and normalised. Limiting belief systems are explored, challenged and broadened.
Hypnotherapy helps conception by identifying and treating mild to moderate depression quickly and effectively, identifying any deeply embedded psychological blocks to pregnancy and resolving them. For women these blocks can take the form of subconscious fear of loss of control of their lives, their bodies, financial security and closeness with their partner: a fear of repeating their parents mistakes, and career setbacks. Mistaken beliefs around sex, conception, labour and birth can adversely affect the chances of conceiving.
Safe to Conceive?
The neurochemical barrage that is associated with our 'Fight' or 'Flight' response in all humans can even be triggeredby a threat to self-esteem or dignity* It translates in the into the contraction of muscles, increased heart rate and the release of emergency hormones throughout the system, The body is now alarmed and energy is automatically directed towards action areas..arms and legs (to run or hit), and crucially, away from non-defence areas such as the gut and reproductive system. Once a chronic imbalance of the autonomic nervous system has been created, it perpetuates itself with even the slightest trigger irritant.
Sperm Know How:
A sperm 'test' is just a snapshot of a sperm sample, showing amount, size, shape, and swimmability at that time*.....Sperm production is extremely sensitive to alcohol intake, stress, and even moods! Counts plummet after just one year of Infertility focus, while after a triumphant football match victory, you've guessed it, they're up.
As sperm production occurs constantly it's easy to optimise the size, amount, shape and swimmability...by lifestyle changes and recruiting the power of the mind to alter hormone production levels.Hypnotherapy allows you to learn the skill of relaxing yourself more completely than you have ever before and provides an effective means of restoring an optimum environment for conception and pregnancy, normalising vital hormone production, sperm count and motility. It frees you up to enjoy your relationship, while ironing out any sexual glitches, too.
What else?
Secondary infertility is defined as the ability to conceive one or more children, followed by the inability to conceive subsequent children. This particularly frustrating diagnosis is compounded by the emotional frustration of not knowing why a sibling isn't forthcoming and why your family isn't expanding according to your dreams..
Unlike those experiencing primary infertility (when a childless couple is unable to conceive), couples that are affected by secondary infertility are much less likely to get infertility treatment. This is usually due to the misconception that once you're fertile, you'll always be fertile. It is not uncommon for a couple to be told to just keep trying and that eventually it will happen. While this may be true in some cases, in many others, advice like this only adds to the frustration and heartache experienced by a couple having fertility problems.
Secondary infertility may happen at any time and the causes, where they have been pinpointed, are almost identical to those of primary infertility. The problem can lie with the woman's reproductive system; the man's reproductive system; or with both partners, as follows (RCOG, 2004):
In 27% of cases an ovulatory problem in the woman is involved.
In 14% of cases tubal damage in the woman is involved.
In 19% of cases low sperm count or poor quality sperm is involved.
-
In 39% of cases disorders in both the man and woman contribute.
This still leaves one third of cases in which the cause of infertility is not identified. This can be frustrating if you are desperate to find out why you cannot conceive. However, in cases of unexplained infertility there is still hope -- one to two thirds of couples with unexplained infertility will conceive within three years if they keep on trying.
Reasons for secondary infertility tend to be the same as reasons for primary infertility. Additionally, if it has been a few years since you last had a child, your egg quality may have begun decreasing or your partner's sperm may not be what it once was. Abnormalities with sperm and ejaculate are frequently cited as causes of secondary infertility.
This process also is effective in resolving the underlying causes of Dysmenorrhoea, Fibromyalgia and Polycystic Ovary.
For those who have suffered the bereavement of miscarriage, ectopic and stillbirth, Hypnotherapy offers sound grief counselling.

Fertility One of the most common causes of delayed ovulation is both physiological and psychological stress. (Weschler). This is because stress dramatically affects the Hypothalamus. This part of the brain is responsible for so much of the reproductive system; most importantly the Pituitary gland which is responsible for the release of Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Luteinising Hormone. Psychological distress can cause delayed emission of these hormones, thereby affecting Ovulation, Fertilisation of the egg, Function and Flexibility of the Fallopian Tube, and the readiness of the lining of the uterine wall to accept an embryo and crucially, to maintain a healthy pregnancy to term.
What's involved?
During an initial one-hour consult suitability for treatment is assessed, a full personal, medical and fertility history is taken.Time scales, current treatments, past experiences, goals, beliefs and objectives are discussed. Explanation of therapy options and techniques is given and questions encouraged and answered so that the specialized treatment plan is tailored for each individual or couple.
Treatment is usually over 6-8 sessions.

PANIC ATTACKS!
A panic attack comprises some or all of the following symptoms:
Racing Heart,
Chest Pain,
Dizziness, Breathlessness
Hyperventilation,
Trembling and Chills,
Extreme fear of Losing Control,
Dying or
Going Mad.
It is described by many sufferers as one of the most real and terrifying experiences of their lives. A panic attack can to several minutes, which can feel like forever and can seem to come on unexpectedly or be triggered by regular stress.
This condition is readily treatable by Hypnotherapy/Psychotherapy. The initial cause is determined, thereafter cognitive behavioural therapy techniques are used to alter the cycle of the episodes and to gain control and confidence again.
Treatment cycle is 6-14 sessions.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
This is a group of symptoms manifested when a person has been exposed to an experience which has resulted in a physiological and psychological traumatic response, usually this will have been life-threatening, or perceived as being life-threatening at the time. The person may have been directly involved or may have been a witness or learned about the traumatic suffering of another person. This may occur after Rape, Road Traffic Accident, Personal Attack or Natural disaster.
The person's response will have been one of extreme fear, helplessness, shock and confusion.
The person may constantly relive his/her experiences over and over again, or paradoxically, try to blot it all out.
Symptoms can include insomnia, flashbacks, feelings of alienation, crying episodes, anxiety, restlessness, terror or grief.
Hypnotherapy works successfully to resolve these disorders by organising normal sleep patterns, addressing the underlying disturbance by reintegrating the memory properly into narrative, teaching coping skills and orientating to the future by boosting self-confidence and self-esteem.

PHOBIAS

A phobic disorder is a condition in which a person will experience a violent reaction when they meet a certain situation or object.
Examples are fear of flying, fear of snakes, fear of dentist, fear of public speaking, fear of interviews, fear of exams, fear of injections, fear of hospitals, claustrophobia, arachnaphobia, agoraphobia and maleusiophobia (fear of childbirth).
There may be a number of symptoms manifested including terror, dread or panic when faced with the trigger object or situation. The very thought of a dental check or an injection can induce anxiety.
In a situation such as a social gathering, or an enclosed space or having to speak publicly, a fear reaction may be triggered.
These reactions are excessive, irrational, inappropriate and completely out of all proportion.
The trigger for this extreme fear is likely to be to the original event(s) that initiated it. In more complex forms of phobic reactions, the link may be more tenuous or there may indeed be a number of contributing factors.
Hypnotherapy treatment finds the cause and eliminates the problem rapidly.

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME
It has been found that stomach and duodenal ulcers can be exacerbated by stress-related factors such as shock-reactions, emotional conflict and feelings of not being in control of one's life.
Other conditions which respond well to Hypnotherapy include Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). At a leading Manchester hospital there is a team of ten Hypnotherapists working in the Gastrointestinal Unit treating patients with IBS easily and swiftly.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Hypertension (raised blood pressure) is well known to be substantially due to chronic heightened emotional states, usually involving suppressed and intense anger.
Cardiologists have identified personality types that are prone to stress-related heart disease and hypertension. Type A tends to be self-critical, perfectionist, ambitious and competitive with an exaggerated sense of urgency. These traits are thought to be caused by factors such as egoism, defensiveness, prejudice, impatience. Dr. Herbert Benson, a cardiologist at Harvard Medical School, has proved conclusively that meditation aids the 'Relaxation Response', which has a direct effect on perceived pain. It also triggers physiological changes in the body: a lowering of heart and respiratory rates, changes in brain wave patterns, a general decrease in sympathetic nerve activity.
Hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis training and the use of guided visualisation and hypnoanalysis can alleviate cardiac problems.

ASTHMA
The panic and distress experienced during an Asthma attack are very frightening.
Based on the work of Dr. Jack Gibson, Helena uses Hypnotherapy to empower children to gain control and understanding of their condition by learning about their stress response, reducing core anxiety levels and dealing with their fears.
This is done in a friendly non-clinical learning environment where a child can acquire knowledge of their particular reactions and how to alter them.
Treatment patterns are typically 5 sesions on a one-to-one basis.
Stress factors can compromise the Immune System which is the body's protective system against infection and disease. There is even memory within the system: this explains why some diseases can only manifest once in an "immunocompetant" environment.Hypnotherapy can increase immune response by 48% in six weeks.
Psychoneuroimmunology studies how psychological factors change the immune system and ultimately increase the risk of disease. The basic findings are that Behaviour, Emotion, Personality and Cognition can all change the body's immune response.
