Attachment Disorder

Attachment disorders are a serious condition which people have a hard time creating and maintaining lasting relationships.  Many times these attachment issues arise from a failure to form normal attachments to primary care giving figures in early childhood.  These attachment issues can carry throughout a child’s adolescent years to adulthood.  Adults that have an attachment disorder sometimes show a compete lack of ability to be genuinely affectionate with other and have other trust issues.  If you are having problems maintaining relationships, seeing a psychologist might be the best approach.

Symptoms of Attachment Disorder

  • Superficially engaging & charming
  • Lack of eye contact on parents’ terms
  • Indiscriminately affectionate with strangers
  • Not affectionate on parents’ terms (not ‘cuddly’)
  • Destructive to self, others and material things (‘accident prone’)
  • Cruelty to animals
  • Lying about the obvious (‘crazy’ lying)
  • Stealing
  • No impulse controls (frequently acts hyperactive)
  • Learning Lags
  • Lack of cause-and-effect thinking
  • Poor peer relationships
  • Preoccupation with fire
  • Preoccupation with blood & gore
  • Persistent nonsense questions & chatter
  • Inappropriately demanding & clingy
  • Abnormal speech patterns
  • Triangulation of adults
  • False allegations of abuse
  • Presumptive entitlement issues
  • Parents appear hostile and angry
  • Lack of conscience
  • Abnormal eating patterns
